How to Discover Your Strengths

You have at least one incredible strength that is inside you.

You might even have more than one.

But it’s common for people to overlook their strengths because it comes so easily and naturally to them.

In fact, many people don’t know what they are good at and it becomes a hindrance to their confidence and their career choices…

Don’t let that be you.

Imagine how much more empowered you would feel if you were able to identify your strengths!

Here Are 8 Strategies You Can Use to Discover Your Strengths and Learn More About Yourself:

1. Identify Your Successes. Recall 2-3 instances in your life where you felt successful. These can be big or small experiences. Write a journal entry about each.

2. Reflect. Write down what your friends and family come to you for? Ex. Advice on relationships, to fix a computer, organize a closet, edit a paper, plan an event, etc. See what themes and patterns you notice.

3. Ask for Feedback. Your friends and family know plenty of things about you that you don’t know about yourself. Ask them what they believe your strengths are? Ask what they could see you being successful at? Most of your friends and family would be happy to do this for you.

4. What Information Do You Seek? What do you read? What do you search for online? What do you like to talk about? What do you like to talk about with your friends? Is there a topic that you always seem to mention every time you hang out? Do you like to share the latest scientific news with your friends? Are you always telling them about your latest discovery? What problems do you want to solve?

5. Pay Attention to Your Energy. There’s one approach to life that is built on the belief that your passion will lead you to find your talents and purpose. Whether you have a nagging urge to learn interior design or a fascination with self-improvement, love hosting dinner parties, or going to concerts, etc. Make a list of all the things that excite you. Use your excitement to guide you on your path.

6. Look Around Your Living Environment. Review what you have and what you like to buy? Where do you find yourself shopping? What brands or companies inspire you? Make a list of brands and companies you love.

7. Dream. It’s common for people to get stuck in a trap of thinking they need more education, experience, time, and resources to do what they really want, so they begin to believe they can’t achieve their dreams. . It’s also common to feel like what you love isn’t a means to make a living. But that is simply not true. There are many people who are making a great living doing something you love. Daydreaming boosts your creativity and problem-solving skills. It helps you think outside the box and expand what’s possible. What does my ideal career look like?

8. Keep An Open Mind. Most of us made up our minds about ourselves a long time ago. Maybe the thing you are telling yourself you aren’t good at…you could be good at? Be open to discovering strengths you never knew you had. Continue to ask yourself, what am I good at?

Pay more attention when your heart lights up, have a moment of joy, or lose track of time (even if it’s subtle) and notice what you are doing. That’s where you’ll discover your magic.

Remember, you have the answers within you.

Self-Reflection Question:

1.    What is getting in my way of seeing my strengths?
