I want to tell you a story about a little girl.

She was born into a poor family. She was so poor, she wore potato sacks as clothes. Her single, teenaged mother raised her and her grandmother made frequent visits.

In 1974 she was 20 years old. She wasn’t considered attractive or thin by typical American standards. Given her history, she had many reasons to prove why she wouldn’t be successful.

Fast forward to 2015. Now she is 61 years old and one of the richest, most successful people in the country.

Who is it?

You can probably guess.

Oprah.

She is a media mogul who’s net worth is $3 billion dollars. Look at the house she grew up in and the house she lives in now. (Click display images)

Many of us blame our past for reasons why we aren’t where we want to be. In fact, we look for reasons to prove why we can’t get where we want to go.

It really has little to do with what happened in your past and more about what you believe about yourself and your future.

Because what you believe on the inside, you create on the outside.

Oprah said, “You are where you are in life because of what you believe is possible for yourself. “

Although Oprah had so many things working against her – what she had was belief in herself. And that’s what makes all the difference.

If you believe in you- you will defy the odds.

So, I invite you to do some self-inquiry:

Am I blaming my past as a reason why I can’t get ahead?

What am I believing about myself?

What am I believing about my future?

Once you are aware of the thoughts that are holding you back, ask yourself:

Who would I become without these thoughts?

Then take action.

If you have stepped out of your past so you can live the life of your dream, I would love to hear from you in the comments below.

Don’t stop believing…
